Where I help in Alicante

Most people write to me from Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Guardamar, Santa Pola, Alicante, Benidorm, Altea, Calpe, Moraira, Jávea and Dénia, and from inland too: Rojales, Ciudad Quesada, Algorfa or the Jalón Valley. Wherever the house is, all I need is your bill.

What drives electricity bills in Alicante

On the Costa Blanca many homes stand empty part of the year. Even when you use nothing, the power charge is paid every single day, so contracting more power than you need shows up on every bill. In summer the air conditioning dominates and in winter the heat pump or electric radiators do, which is why I look at how much you use in each time period before recommending anything.

Who brings electricity to your home in Alicante

Across almost the whole province the grid belongs to i-DE, the Iberdrola group's distribution company. The distributor doesn't change when you switch supplier: same grid, same meter, same quality of supply. The only thing that changes is who bills you and at what price.

Why the price per kWh isn't enough

Fixed-price tariffs cost the same everywhere in mainland Spain. What changes from one home to another is your contracted power, the times you use electricity and whether the house is empty part of the year. That's why I don't compare against a "typical" household: I calculate with the kWh per period and the days on your own bill, with all taxes, and tell you what you'd pay per month with each tariff.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from expats in Alicante

I only use my house in summer. Which tariff suits me?

With a house that sits empty for months, the fixed part (the power charge) weighs much more than the energy. You want a tariff with cheap power and, if your contracted power is higher than you use, it may be worth lowering it. With your bill I'll show you how much each part costs.

My bill is in Spanish and I don't understand it. Can you explain it?

Yes. Upload it as it is, PDF or photo. I'll tell you what each item means (power, energy, electricity tax, meter rental, VAT) and how much of what you pay you could save.

Do I need to be in Spain to switch supplier?

No. The switch is done remotely: I need your NIE, NIF or passport, an email address, a phone number and a bill showing your CUPS. There's no work at the house, your power isn't cut off and you don't have to call your current supplier: the cancellation happens automatically.
