Electricity tariffs for expats in Almería
From Mojácar to the Almanzora Valley, many foreigners live in country houses and cortijos where electricity is almost the only energy bill. I'll help you make sure you don't overpay.
Where I help in Almería
I help expats on the coast (Mojácar, Garrucha, Vera, San Juan de los Terreros, Roquetas de Mar, Aguadulce, Almerimar), in Almería city and Cabo de Gata, and inland: Arboleas, Albox, Zurgena, Cantoria, Huércal-Overa, Los Gallardos or Turre.
What drives electricity bills in Almería
In Almería's country houses it's common to heat with radiators or a heat pump and to pump water from a well or the pool. That consumption shows, and so does the contracted power. If your home is on the grid with a normal household contract (up to 15 kW), I can compare your bill just like a city flat's.
Who brings electricity to your home in Almería
In most of the province of Almería the grid belongs to e-distribución, the Endesa group's distribution company. It stays the same even if you switch to another supplier: switching only changes who bills you.
Why the price per kWh isn't enough
Fixed-price tariffs cost the same everywhere in mainland Spain. What changes from one home to another is your contracted power, the times you use electricity and whether the house is empty part of the year. That's why I don't compare against a "typical" household: I calculate with the kWh per period and the days on your own bill, with all taxes, and tell you what you'd pay per month with each tariff.
Questions from expats in Almería
My home is a cortijo in the countryside. Does this work for me?
Yes, if it's connected to the grid with a household tariff (2.0TD, up to 15 kW). If your home runs only on panels and batteries, off-grid, there's no bill to compare.
If I switch supplier, does the distributor change?
No. The distributor owns the grid and isn't something you choose: in your area it stays the same. If there's a power cut, you report it to the distributor, just as now.
Do I need to be in Spain to switch supplier?
No. The switch is done remotely: I need your NIE, NIF or passport, an email address, a phone number and a bill showing your CUPS. There's no work at the house, your power isn't cut off and you don't have to call your current supplier: the cancellation happens automatically.
